Step into your very own dressmaking shop, where bolts of silk, velvet, and cotton await your creative touch. Dressmaker, the upcoming debut from Cozy Lives, offers a uniquely immersive simulation that puts every aspect of garment creation in your hands. From choosing fabrics and cutting patterns to stitching seams and adding embellishments, this is a game that celebrates the art of dressmaking in all its intricate, satisfying detail.
With its September 21st release just around the corner, Dressmaker is already generating plenty of buzz. Here’s everything you need to know about what this charming simulation has in store.
A Canvas for Your Creativity
Dressmaker sets you up as the owner of a quaint little shop, tasked with designing dresses for a charming town full of characters with distinct tastes. You won’t be dropshipping or mass producing any products here. Instead, your dressmaking involves an intricate, step-by-step process.

It all starts in your sketchbook. Here, you’ll design the dress from the ground up, selecting styles and creating a colour palette to match your client’s (or your own) vision.
Next comes the most satisfying part: fabric selection. The game offers a stunning array of materials to choose from, including cotton, linen, wool, silk, and velvet. You can even scrunch up the fabric to see how it drapes and reflects in the light. Then, you move to the cutting table, where you must carefully arrange and cut out your pattern pieces. Pay attention to the grain line! How you arrange your patterns directly influences the final look of the dress, a detail that shows the developers’ commitment to authenticity.

The actual act of sewing is a surprisingly tense and tactile mini-game. You guide the fabric pieces through your sewing machine, following a dotted line to stitch them together with a steady hand. One wrong move and you might end up with a jagged line, tanking your quality score. It’s a small mechanic that manages to be both a challenge and something that’s incredibly meditative.
Then decorate your masterpieces with an array of buttons, bows, appliqués, and lace trims, placing them wherever you like for complete creative freedom.
Tailormade Tailoring

The world of Dressmaker is set in a lively town filled with residents who each have their own unique tastes and special occasions on the horizon. From wedding dresses to elegant evening gowns, your clients will come to you with specific requests, and it’s up to you to create garments that match their vision and leave them impressed. Build your reputation with each successful commission, earning both the coin and the trust of your growing clientele.
But if you’d rather let your creativity run wild without a brief, you can design original pieces and display them in your shop window, selling pre-made dresses straight off the rack. It’s a lovely touch that gives you the freedom to either work to a client’s specifications or simply create what inspires you and see if it finds a buyer.
The Heart Behind the Hobby

Dressmaker is a passion project born from co-creators Jonathan Hau-Yoon (known for Terra Nil) and his partner, Sabrina Becker, an artist and dressmaking enthusiast. When Becker’s plans to study costume design were put on hold due to a health condition, Hau-Yoon sought a way to allow her to share her craft with the world through their shared love of gaming.
Dressmaker is a game built on a foundation of genuine love for the process. It is a tactile tailoring simulation where every part of making a dress is under your control, inspired by real dressmaking techniques.
The sound design is actually the recorded hum of Becker’s own vintage Singer sewing machine, which adds to the wonderfully zen atmosphere. It’s the kind of sound that fades into the background, letting you focus solely on your creation.
Dressmaker
While the premise of Dressmaker is simple, the depth and freedom it offers are immense. Whether you’re a seasoned sewist who appreciates the realistic details or a cozy gamer looking for a new, relaxing obsession, this game delivers.
The game looks to be a gentle, gorgeous, and deeply satisfying simulation that we’ll be returning to for many cozy afternoons to come. Mark your calendars for September 21st and get ready to create the dresses of your dreams.
Dressmaker will be available on PC via Steam on September 21, 2026.
