One Lonely Outpost: The Complete Fishing Guide

One Lonely Outpost, indie.io, farming sim, colony, life sim, fishing guide, fish

You’re the first pioneer to hit the surface of a barren, alien world—a desolate expanse as far as the eye can see. Your job is simple: Take your Space-RV, power up your multipurpose tech gauntlet, and use whatever seeds you found in the cargo to start a new life on this world. Over time, you’ll make the planet life-sustaining for yourself and dozens of future colonists. But until then, it’s going to be one lonely outpost…

In One Lonely Outpost, you’ll terraform an entire planet, grow crops in nutrient-deficient soil, build relationships with a colourful cast of characters, and explore the mysteries of this alien world. Among the many activities you’ll undertake, fishing stands out as one of the most unique and rewarding—but also one of the most challenging.

Unlike traditional farming sims where you cast a line and wait, here you command a fishing drone to hunt for your catch. This guide covers everything from meeting Linny to mastering the mini-game and upgrading your gear.

How To Start Fishing

You’ll unlock the fishing mechanic by meeting Linny, the colony’s fisherwoman who arrives on Calypso once aquatic life is available. To get your first drone blueprint, you’ll need to complete her quests.

First, help Linny confirm her theories about fish habitats. She’ll ask you to deliver a Bowfish and a Leafish to prove that different fish appear in specific environments. This is part of the “Path to The Basin” task.

After confirming her theory, she’ll need a significant amount of materials to build a path down to the basin. You’ll need to deliver:

  • Stone (60)
  • Steel Ingot (30)
  • Aluminium Ingot (10)

Once you’ve gathered these materials and waited until the next day, talk to Linny again. She will give you the blueprint for your first fishing drone—the Piranha Drone. Alternatively, you can also visit her shop, The Fish’s Angle, to purchase the blueprint.

How to Fish

Once you’ve crafted your Piranha Drone, it’s time to hit the water. The process involves a few distinct steps:

  1. Deploy the Drone – Stand near a body of open water and deploy your fishing drone. You can only fish in designated areas where the drone can operate.
  2. Dash into Fish – Control the drone and dash it directly into the fish swimming in the water. This can be tricky, as fish are skittish and often faster than the drone. A key tactic is to use the environment to your advantage—try to pin the fish against the floor or the edges of the water to make them easier to catch.
  3. Complete the mini-game- once you successfully bump a fish, you’ll enter a mini-game. Use quick timing and clicking to secure the catch.
  4. Surface to Retrieve – After a successful catch, guide the drone back to the water’s surface before your battery runs out to collect your fish.

Fishing Drones

The Piranha Drone is your starting tool, but you can access advanced models with better durability and capabilities as you progress. The next step up is the Barracuda Drone, and eventually, the steel-alloy Kraken Drone is a significant upgrade. For instance, the Kraken Drone allows you to explore further and catch “Abyss fish” in deeper areas like Inanna Falls and Seaside Nexus.
