Deep beneath the surface lies a cavern teeming with strange creatures, forgotten relics, and untold riches — and at its heart, a mysterious ancient Core waiting to be uncovered. Core Keeper is a sandbox adventure for 1–8 players where you mine, build, fight, craft, and farm your way through a sprawling underground world. Whether you’re carving out your first base or delving into boss-infested biomes, you won’t face the darkness alone—because in this vast cavern, the right companion can mean the difference between survival and becoming something’s lunch.
Pets are creatures that can be “equipped” to players and function as status aids as well as an aid in battle. They’re split into melee attack pets, ranged attack pets, and support pets. Hatch pets from eggs to get yourself a loyal friend that will level up as you do.
In this guide, we’ll go through all the basics of getting a pet in Core Keeper, where to get their eggs and what each pet does.
Note: This article has been updated with the Riders of the Underground v1.3 update that introduces three new pets.
How to Hatch Pet Eggs

Getting pets in Core Keeper requires players to hatch eggs with an incubator. First, obtain an egg in one of three ways: dig for it in the world with a shovel, find it in loot crates scattered around, or buy it from the Bearded Merchant after defeating Glurch the Abominous Mass.
After obtaining an egg, you need to build an Egg Incubator, which is crafted on the Copper Workbench using 8 Copper Bars and 8 Glass Shards. The incubator requires electricity to function. After 30 minutes (real-time), the egg will crack into a “cracked” version. Take it out and use it like an item to hatch your new pet.
Pet talents are random, with each pet having 9 different talents in their pool. As the pet levels up, it will get talent points every even level (for a total of 5 points). The points will unlock that specific pet’s talents.

Pets can level up to level 10, earning 5 talent points along the way (one at each even level, plus one additional at level 10).
Each pet has a unique pool of 9 different talents. When a pet is hatched, it receives a random selection of talents from that pool. Talents can be unlocked using talent points, and they can be reset for 200 Ancient Coins if you want to respec.
