The Abbess Garden: Where Botany Meets Espionage

From MD Studio, The Abbess Garden is a cozy historical sim that invites you to sink your hands into the soil of 17th-century France. Play as Agnes, a young peasant who is tasked with growing plants, finding and identifying new ones, and taking care of her garden. It’s a game where every planted seed is a step toward healing a community, and every blooming flower might hide a secret. If you liked the RPG story elements of Potion Permit or Sun Haven, coupled with its cozy farming and life sim, then you’ll want to check out The Abbess Garden.

Utilising real-world horticulture techniques, you’ll spend your days taking care of the overgrown garden at the Port-Royal-des-Champs abbey. But what happens when you discover a book written by a deceased spy? Your understanding of the text may change the fate of British and French history.

A Sprouting Spy Plot

The year is 1643. You are Agnes, a young peasant gifted the keys to the overgrown garden of the Port-Royal-des-Champs abbey. Your task is to restore this hallowed ground to its former glory. But as any gardener knows, beneath the surface of the soil, wonders and mysteries are waiting to germinate.

Yet, more than just ragworts and critters hide in the weeds. While tending your peaceful plot, you’ll uncover a book left by a deceased spy. This discovery pulls you into a gentle mystery: you must help your new friends decipher its coded messages before powerful royals can.

This narrative winds through your daily routine like a delicate vine. You’ll interact with the enigmatic Solitaires who dwell in the abbey, all while cultivating a space of beauty and peace amidst the growing intrigue. It’s a perfect blend of cozy cultivation and quiet adventure, where a day spent pruning can lead to a plot twist sprouting unexpectedly.

The Heart of Horticulture

The Abbess Garden is an immersive botanical experience that allows you to use gardening techniques based on real horticulture.

  • Cultivate with Care: Plant seeds, water them and take their soil and proximity preferences into account.
  • Harvest with Purpose: Collect seeds for the next season, and harvest fragrant blossoms, potent roots, and verdant leaves. These aren’t just for show; they form the basis of remedies and tinctures for the local community.
  • Identify and Discover: You are tasked with identifying every species through all its stages of growth, from its first cotyledons to its final flowering. Discover new plants at each turn of the season.

Grow Your Garden, Expand Your World, Find Your Heart

Your work in the garden is its own reward, a quiet meditation of growth and nurture. Yet, the world around you responds beautifully to your care. As you share the harvest’s bounty in the form of soothing herbs and homegrown remedies, you will naturally sow the seeds of friendship within the local community. These connections may gently blossom into something more, offering the chance to find a special someone with whom to tend the garden of your heart.

With each story chapter and quest completed and every restored garden bed bursting with life, new horizons unfold; you’ll unlock the gates to long-forgotten, overgrown sections of the abbey grounds, each one a fresh canvas awaiting your restorative touch and a new chapter in your own unfolding story.
