Outbound: The Complete Fishing Guide

The Venn diagram between the cozy gaming community and the camper van community is almost a circle. Think about it: small cozy areas for you to relax in, the great outdoors with hardly anyone around and of course exploration at a chill place. That’s why Camper Van: Make It Home struck such a cord with the cozy gamers, and now Outbound is here for a slightly more adventurous pace.

In Outbound, you and your friends can explore a colourful world in your own cozy home on wheels. Upgrade and customise your vehicle, grow crops, and live sustainably off-grid. What could be cozier than that? Well, that would of course be the addition of my favourite virtual pastime activity – fishing. In last month’s v1.1.4 fishing update, Outbound added a new content update that allows you to kick back, relax and fish out in the great outdoors.

In this Outbound fishing guide, we’ll go through how to start fishing, where to get the fish and what to do with all the fish you’ve collected.

How To Start Fishing

To start fishing in Outbound you’ll first need to get a fishing rod. There are a total of 3 Fishing Rods that you’ll be able to obtain and craft, with different rods being required to catch different fish.

The first fishing rod is available in the first biome at the Fishing Hut near the lake. This will also provide you with your first couple of buildable fish tanks. The next fishing rods and fish tanks can be acquired at the Fisherman’s hut in the Coastal and Canyon biomes.

Once you get your fishing rod you’ll be able to start fishing. Fishing in Outbound can be done in all bodies of water: lakes, oceans, ponds, rivers etc. across the four biomes. Look for fishing spots near lakes, rivers and coastlines. They’ll appear when you get close. Then all you need to do is interact with the fishing spot to cast your line.

Much like real fishing, you’ll need to wait for a bite, so watch your bobber closely until you see it sink in. Once you do, reel in your catch b keeping your indicator in the green zone. Once you hit all three green zones you’ll be able to reel in your catch!

Fishing Locations

There are 32 collectible fish spread across all four biomes. Every catch has a star rating from 0 to 5; the highest you reach for each fish is logged in your journal.

Fish Tanks

Fish in Outbound aren’t for eating but for collecting and displaying in your camper van. With the Fishing Update you’ll now be able to build Fish Tanks and place them in your home. Do note that larger fish will need bigger tanks – this mostly are for the Rare and Legendary fish. They may be big but they certainly do look impressive.

There are 4 buildable Fish Tanks that can serve as habitats for your caught fish.
