Palia: The Complete Fishing Guide (Updated)

Palia-Singularity-6-Free-To-Play-Cozy-MMORPG-PlayStation-5-Xbox-PC, Fishing Guide, Fish

Welcome to Palia, an online multiplayer fantasy life sim where you can live your best cozy life. Spend your days crafting, exploring, making friends or decorating your house. There’s plenty to see and do, but you are also free to kick back and enjoy the day fishing by the river. In this guide, we’ll go through everything you need to know about fishing in Palia, the different fishing rods, bait, and more.

Note: This guide has been updated with new recipes from The Royal Highlands Expansion that came out on May 13th 2026.

How To Fish

Fishing in Palia works much like it does in real life. Get your fishing rod out in the water and wait for a fish to bite. Once they do, two green markers “( )” will appear around the fish. The objective is to keep the fish within the green markers as you reel them in. However, fish will try to escape by swimming side to side or jumping.

To begin fishing, equip the fishing rod and head over to any body of water. Hold down the left-click to set the distance of your cast. When the circle reaches your target, release the left click and wait for the fish to take a bite. Allow the fish to nibble on the line before setting the hook, but wait for a big bite. When you see a big splash (usually after 2-3 smaller nibbles), set the hook by pressing and holding the left-click.

When the green “( )” markers appear, hold left click to reel in the line. Keep the fish within the green markers. If you reel while a fish is outside of the green markers, your fishing rod will take damage. When the fish is outside of the area, release the left-click to stop reeling and try to recenter them on the fish.

As you progress, you’ll find that some fish can’t be caught with just a basic fishing rod, so you’ll need to upgrade your fishing rod and/or add some bait. Different baits will attract different fish.

Upgrade Your Fishing Rod

As you level up your fishing skills, you’ll be able to buy recipes from Einar to upgrade your fishing rod.

Fishing Bait

Some fish will only bite if you’ve hooked a specific bait to your fishing line. There are only two types of bait available in Palia at this time: Worms and Glow Worms.

Glow WormBuy from Fishing Guild 20x Glow Worm for 10 Fishing Medals after reaching Fishing Lvl 10 25 Gold

The Worm Farm and Glow Worm Farm can be purchased from Einar to produce bait worms every 60 real-world minutes.

  • Worm Farm – 500 Gold at Fishing Lvl 4
  • Glow Worm Farm – 2,000 Gold at Fishing Lvl 7

Fishing Hotspots

Sometimes, rings of bubbles appear in fishable bodies of water, with a small fish jumping over them. Fishing from a hotspot will yield either a Star Quality fish or a  Waterlogged Chest. Junk items do not appear from hotspots. Fishing from hotspots is the only way to obtain Star Quality fish.

Fishing Hotspots can be tracked with a  Tuning Fork. Activate a Tuning Fork to see where Fishing Hotspots are on the map.

Fishing Locations

In Palia, you can catch fish in ponds, lakes, rivers and off the coast. The type of fish caught is determined by the Palia Time of day, the location and type of body of water being fished, and the kind of Bait (or lack thereof) being used. Non-fish items, such as a Waterlogged Chest, also have a chance to be reeled in.
