Cast n Chill: All Upgrades for Your Rod, Lures, and Boat (Updated)

Upgrading your gear is key to becoming a master angler in Cast n Chill. Whether you’re aiming for rare fish or legendary catches, you’ll need the best rods, the right lures, and a boat that suits your style. This guide covers every upgrade available in Cast n Chill – where to get them, how much they cost and everything else you need to know about them.

Note: This article has been updated since its previous update in September 2025 to include Cast n Chill‘s Lake Hunkerdown Winter update.

Fishing Rod Upgrades

As you progress in Cast n Chill, you’ll encounter bigger and rarer fish to catch. But to reel them in, you’ll need to upgrade your rod’s strength and depth. Do so by buying new Rods at Rusty’s Tackle and Bait Shop at the docks. Each rod will upgrade your fishing line’s strength and depth.

  • Line Strength – Lets you reel in heavier fish without breaking.
  • Line Depth – Allows you to cast deeper for hard-to-reach species.

Unlock new rods by progressing to further locations and giving Rusty tips at the Tackle Shop

All Hooks and Lures

Every fish species prefers a different lure, so you’ll need to collect and upgrade them as you progress. Purchase new hooks and lures from Rusty’s Tackle and Bait Shop, and make sure to equip the right bait before casting to lure the fish that you want. Make sure to check out our complete Cast n Chill: Fish guide for the lure preferences for each fish.

You’ll unlock new lure types as you discover species that require them.

Boat Upgrades

Boats in Cast n Chill won’t affect what type of fish you can catch. But upgrading your boat will give you a larger amount of storage, meaning you can be out on the water longer. Plus, it looks cool.

Once again, you can buy all your boat upgrades from Rusty’s Tackle and Bait Shop.
