Songs of Glimmerwick: The Complete Songs And Spells Guide

Welcome to Glimmerwick — a land famous for its university of magic, where you happen to be enrolled! In this woodland fantasy world, music is the secret to casting spells. Ancient songs make garden work a breeze and are the key to exploring every corner of the island. Armed with your trusty flute and songbook, you’ll attend classes, join after-school clubs, befriend classmates and townsfolk, and uncover Glimmerwick’s many oddities and mysteries — all while enjoying a year of seasons, festivals, curses, and witchy hijinks in this peaceful, story-driven RPG.

In Songs of Glimmerwick, you cast spells with the music from your flute. You till soil, clear dead trees, call rain, and raise sunken temples by playing tunes — and you learn new ones from professors, villagers, and quest rewards throughout the year. This guide lists all 20 spell songs you can learn, the exact keys and buttons for each one, how much mana it costs, and where to find it.

How To Cast Spells

To cast a spell, you need to play your flute and play a spell’s notes in order. The flute has eight notes, and every spell is built from them.

Learning and Perfecting Songs

Every song has three ranks: you learn it when someone teaches it to you, then practice it up to Learned (one star) and Perfected (two stars).

  • Learned adds the spell to your quick flute button, letting you cast it from the menu instead of playing the notes by hand. The button only shows spells that work where you’re standing — garden spells like Song of Tilling and Rain Dance appear inside your garden, while spells like Sandcastle Jingle and Restoration Round appear everywhere else.
  • Perfected cuts that spell’s mana cost by 20% (and the quick-cast button keeps the cheaper cost). This matters most for spells you cast constantly: perfecting Song of Tilling saves 7 mana on every plot, and Restoration Round drops from 140 to 112.
  • Each new star also gives 1 XP when you close the lesson, making practice a steady source of experience.

The Practice Chambers

Practice takes place in the chambers at the back of the Etchery music classroom, where time slows so you can practice as long as you like without losing any of your day. Step inside, take out your flute, and pick any practicable song you know to start a lesson.

During a lesson, the full piece scrolls along the staff and you score 6 points for sloppy timing, 8 for okay, and 10 for perfect per note:

  • Learned requires 6 points per note — getting through the whole piece with every note at least sloppy is enough.
  • Perfected requires 90% of the maximum score, so a run of nothing but “okay” notes falls short — you need most notes perfectly timed.

The lesson screen shows both target scores, and your best score is saved. If you’re struggling, Song Mastery Help in the options lowers both targets by 25% per step.

Note that only some songs can be practised. Song of Silence, Alchemical Resonance, Lakedew Lily Song, and Tangleknot Remover must always be played by hand at full cost — they never appear on the quick flute button.
