Welcome to Starsand Island, a radiant jewel adrift in the ocean’s expanse, where you can finally trade the city grind for the simple joys of country life. In this seaside paradise, you’ll live alongside adorable capybaras, cats, and dogs, explore the mysterious Moonlit Forest, and master the art of fishing. Whether you’re hoping to reel in a big catch for a celebratory meal or just want to relax by the water with your pole, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know to become the island’s ultimate angler.
Note: Starsand Island came out in Early Access on the 12th of February 2026. As such information in this guide is subject to change as the game updates and we find out more information.
How To Fish
Once you’ve crafted a Fishing Pole, you’re ready to begin.
- Find a Spot: Equip your fishing pole and head to any body of water (ocean, river, pond).
- Cast Your Line: Look for a fish shadow swimming in the water. Hold down the M1 button to start casting. Aim toward the shadow and release M1 to drop your line.
- Wait for a Bite: Keep an eye on your bobber. You’re waiting for a fish to swim up and bite it.
- Reel It In! When the fish bites, hold M1 to start reeling it in.
- The Tug-of-War: Some fish will fight back. Watch the color of your fishing line carefully:
- If the line turns red, it’s about to snap! Immediately release M1 to give the line a break. Once the line returns to its normal color, you can hold M1 again to continue reeling.
- Success! Once you’ve reeled the fish in, it’s yours.
How to Use Bait
There are three types of bait, all crafted at a Chopper station. (You can get the blueprint for the Chopper at the AquaBlue Outpost). There are three types of bait: Meat, Veggie and Bug bait.
- Equip your desired bait by placing it in an inventory slot and selecting it.
- Stand near the water and press M1 to toss the bait in.
- You’ll immediately see new fish shadows appear in the water. The type of bait you threw in will determine what kind of fish show up. This is also a great way to refresh a fishing spot if you’ve already caught everything in the area.
